      The U.S. is moving ground-to-air missile defenses to Hawaii as tensions escalate between Washington and Pyongyang over North Korea's recent moves to restart its nuclear-weapon program and resume test-firing long-range missiles. Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates said that the U.S. is concerned that Pyongyang might soon fire a missile toward Hawaii. Some senior U.S. officials expect a North Korean test by midsummer, even though most don't think the missile would be capable of crossing the Pacific and reaching the islands.         Is "The Fed's Expanded Powers" our primary concern, or is there 'more to the story' regarding the Financial Regulatory Reform?

        In his 1966 work, Tragedy and Hope, Dr. Carroll Quigley states:

        The powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreement arrived at in frequent private meetings and conferences. The apex of the system was to be the Bank for International Settlements in Basle, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the world’s central banks which were themselves private corporations.         The whole purpose of secrecy in government should not be to keep information from other states (this is almost impossible) but to make it as difficult as possible for other states to get certain information, so that, when they do get such restricted information, it will be so intermingled with other information and misinformation that it cannot be evaluated promptly enough to do them any good. In fact, the most successful kind of counterespionage work is achieved, not by preventing access to secrets, but by permitting access to information which is not true. (Page 920)

        New York Attorney-General Andrew Cuomo has claimed that, in 2008, then-Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke strong-armed BofA into buying Merrill -- a move that, if true, could expose Paulson and Bernanke to prosecution.

        I'm not asking you to 'do' anything, or even to agree with Mr. Brobst. I am however asking you to consider what probably sounds like in some cases radically different information than you've elsewhere - perhaps ever before.         JIM LEHRER: What is the proper relationship, what should be the proper relationship between a chairman of the Fed and a president of the United States?

        ALAN GREENSPAN: Well, first of all, the Federal Reserve is an independent agency, and that means, basically, that there is no other agency of government which can overrule actions that we take. So long as that is in place and there is no evidence that the administration or the Congress or anybody else is requesting that we do things other than what we think is the appropriate thing, then what the relationships are don't, frankly, matter. And I've had very good relationships with presidents.

        Greenspan - 1966: (the solution, the cure to what he said in 2007):

        “An almost hysterical antagonism toward the gold standard is one issue which unites statists of all persuasions. They seem to sense - perhaps more clearly and subtly than many consistent defenders of laissez- faire - that gold and economic freedom are inseparable, that the gold standard is an instrument of laissez- faire and that each implies and requires the other. In order to understand the source of their antagonism, it is necessary first to understand the specific role of gold in a free society.

        Money is the common denominator of all economic transactions. It is that commodity which serves as a medium of exchange, is universally acceptable to all participants in an exchange economy as payment for their goods or services, and can, therefore, be used as a standard of market value and as a store of value, i.e., as a means of saving.

        The existence of such a commodity is a precondition of a division of labor economy. If men did not have some commodity of objective value which was generally acceptable as money, they would have to resort to primitive barter or be forced to live on self- sufficient farms and forgo the inestimable advantages of specialization. If men had no means to store value, i.e., to save, neither long- range planning nor exchange would be possible.

        In the absence of the gold standard, there is no way to protect savings from confiscation through inflation. There is no safe store of value. If there were, the government would have to make its holding illegal, as was done in the case of gold. If everyone decided, for example, to convert all his bank deposits to silver or copper or any other good, and thereafter declined to accept checks as payment for goods, bank deposits would lose their purchasing power and government- created bank credit would be worthless as a claim on goods. The financial policy of the welfare state requires that there be no way for the owners of wealth to protect themselves. This is the shabby secret of the welfare statists' tirades against gold. Deficit spending is simply a scheme for the confiscation of wealth. Gold stands in the way of this insidious process. It stands as a protector of property rights. If one grasps this, one has no difficulty in understanding the statists' antagonism toward the gold standard.”

I want to reiterate my point on yesterday's broadcast, which is simply this: in my humble estimation, to focus on "Israel", "The Jews", "9/11", etc., is to play to failure. It's a setup. Pike wrote about it nearly 140 yrs ago - and it wasn't a new idea then - the 1st Zionist Congress talked about it - about what? This idea of pitting "The Jews" (more accurately Political Zionism) against Islam. BUT - the main point is: this (like all others in modern history) is simply a proxy war - nothing more, nothing less. Which is why I also included in yesterday's archive a link to Spivak's article Wall Street's Fascist Conspiracy. What do I mean? Consider two analogies: driving in the rear view mirror - that is, driving while staring point blank in to the rear view mirror. Or playing poker always thinking about and lamenting the last hand. I know, some will say, "Yeah, but we're focusing on the dealer." To which I would respond, "Incorrect." You are attacking a 'fellow' proxy warrior in almost every case. Think about it, and in the meantime...

        Remember what I keep saying about these reports - go read CSIS reports, and then be a prophet to friends, family, and co-workers six to twelve months from now. In fact, if you do, you almost don't even need to read the news headlines. Proof? How about an excerpt from Friday's NYTimes piece Obama Outlines Coordinated Cyber-Security Plan:

        James A. Lewis, a director at the Center for Strategic & International Studies, a Washington group that published a bipartisan report last year calling on the president to appoint a cyberczar, said that the White House had now narrowed the list of candidates for the position to fewer than 10...

        More proof? Consider the following excerpt from the 9/18/08 Heritage Foundation / CSIS joint brief titled Homeland Security 3.0:

        In 2004, a task force chaired by homeland security experts from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and The Heritage Foundation (and consisting of representatives from academia, research centers, the private sector, and congressional staffs) presented its conclusions in “DHS 2.0: Rethinking the Department of Homeland Security.”... It offered more than 40 major recommendations and made the case for a significant reorganization of the DHS... Many of these proposals in the report were subsequently adopted by Congress and the Secretary of Homeland Security.

        By the way, the "lingering disagreement [as to] how to coordinate that new command with the work of the National Security Agency, home to most of the government’s expertise on computer and network warfare" (NYTimes article) was already 'solved' long ago too. See Lewis' "" and CRS Report "" in Friday's archive for more. By the way, speaking of the Friday NYTimes article, what do you suppose this means:

        Although the president did not discuss details of the expanding role for the military in offensive and pre-emptive cyberoperations, senior officials said Friday that the Pentagon planned to create a new cybercommand to organize and train for digital war, and to oversee offensive and defensive operations.

        Remember also, as a brief aside - and Speaking of James Andrew Lewis of CSIS - in August, 2006 Lewis authored the piece titled Why Can't the U.S. Have It's Own MI5?

        The bottom line to all of this is simply; while the 'security' issue may or may not be legitimate, the fortuitous seizing upon of opportunist despots and tyrants alike is conversely odious.
